This is my last blog entry for 2005.

Automotive journalists usually look forward at the end of the year, naming their "Cars of the Year" for the next model year.

I'm looking backward. Here are my "Cars of the Year 2005":

Best Sports Sedan: Infiniti M35 — Man, do I love this car. Great performance, modern amenities and elegant styling. Did I mention great performance?

Best Large SUV: Toyota Sequoia — I don't need one of these, but if you do, this one will do the job.

Best Crossover Vehicle: Nissan Murano — It looks like a sports shoe, it drives like a dream and it's not so loaded with luxury that you're afraid to let the kids in.

Best Small SUV: Honda Element — The best of the "form follows function" designs, this one just works, from the clamshell rear doors to the rubber floors. Most likely to wind up as my girlfriend's next vehicle.

Best Car Under $20,000: Mazda3 5-Door — A surprising little car, from the generous amount of space inside to the spirited performance to the fun handling and snappy styling. The car I recommend most frequently.

Car I'd Like to Have In My Driveway: Dodge Magnum R/T — Hot rod styling, rugged comfort and gobs of power, this is the one for me. I'll take mine in "magnesium," please.

What were your favorites for 2005? Did you buy a new car this year? Are you planning to buy one next year?

Whatever your plans, have a happy, safe New Year's Eve, and Enjoy the Ride!

Thanks for reading.
